Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6) [UNABRIDGED] (Hardcover) $18

My chest feels as though my heart has been torn out from the book's tragic ending as I sit here typing, hopelessly admiring the tactic Rowling used to achieve her greatest success to date in this much loved children's book series.

Children and adults who read this book alike will be left reeling in its aftermath. As an adult I was first attracted to the Harry Potter series quite inadvertently. I had adamantly refused to read any of the three Harry Potter books published at the time until I was required to in college in my children's literature class.

Almost instantly I was spellbound by Rowling's nostalgic narrative. Children of course (and quite a few adults as well) delighted in the fantasy and Harry's and friends' magical misadventures. However, I think much more alluring to adults is how Rowling's writing somehow manages to transport us in time to a much simpler, secure, and magical era in our own lives. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Hardcover Edition is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

But in her latest achievement Rowling departed from her usual safe, magical, nostalgic atmosphere, instead embracing all too real themes prominent in the world at large. The opening chapter in her book portrays the muggle world hopelessly searching for answers to inexplicable acts of terrorism. In doing so, she has effectively raised the stakes in this book.

No longer is it just the wizarding community in danger, but ours as well. It seems the ever present daily fear that magical characters live with is a very familiar echo of our own terrorist fueled anxiety in this perilous new world we live in.

Gone is mystery obscuring Voldemort, who until this book, moved quietly (with a few notable exceptions) in the shadows of uncertainty and doubt. Every witch and wizard alive now knows Voldemort is back and that they all are in "mortal peril". Potter and Dumbledore themselves take further steps to pierce the veil of mystery that has always opaqued this character.

Acting very much like FBI profilers the two reconstruct recollections of Voldemort's past, uncovering the truth about how a modest muggle born Tom Riddle became the scourge of the wizarding world, with unimaginable consequences for both.

Perhaps the darkest (and most beautifully poignant) aspect of this novel is the way she strips Potter himself of callow illusions of safety. In the first book Potter's mother had imparted some magical shield to him through her death at Lord Voldemort's hands. Indeed all Potter had to do to vanquish the Voldemort specter was touch him. Even when Voldemort was resurrected in the flesh in later books, Potter still had layers of protection consisting of members of the Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore himself. But in this book every ounce of protection once had, whether real or imagined, is stolen from him, in one fateful moment atop Hogwart's castle.

The ultimate irony of this scene is that it is Dumbledore's trusting optimism, in which Potter found some sort of emotional respite in earlier books, which tragically leaves Potter very much alone. By the end of this emotional epic Potter has become a man, abandoning all desperate hopes of shirking his final confrontation with his arch nemesis and accepts his destiny with ironclad determination. For adults, Rowling has successfully tapped into our own memory of whatever tragedy or trauma caused us to cease to believe in magic and forget childish illusions of security in our own lives.

This is not to say that the book is completing lacking in humor or the lighthearted moments we have come to expect from Rowling's writing, this book seems to be an effective amalgam of both. From family squabbles over Christmas dinner to hormonal teenagers taking lusty refuge in each other's arms in darkened classrooms or abandoned hallways this book had more than enough comical highlights. Ron and Hermione in their mature (or lack of it) relationship provide a great deal of humor in this novel.

However great this story might be or how well it sets the stage for the final epic showdown, this book may not be for everyone. It seems that Rowling is writing for adults or at least the children (now teenagers) that read the first book in the series when it was originally published. The vocabulary that Rowling uses is quite extensive and one should be prepared to have a dictionary on hand to discern the full meaning out of certain passages.

Furthermore, as the characters have grown up so too have the series themes matured. Our teenage protagonists are now involved with romantic rivalries, rebelliousness, and quite a bit of making out. As mentioned before the themes and mechanisms Rowling utilizes in her writing may be too mature for younger readers.

While this book will surly present hours of enjoyable entertainment to adults, parents would be well advised to wait for the eager younger readers to be a bit older before presenting with this wonderfully written all too real fantasy masterpiece.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Two-Disc Special Edition) (Harry Potter 4) (2005) $24

In this forth installment in the ever popular Harry Potter series based on the novel by JK Rowling we see Harry mature in many ways, he must over come three deadly tasks, face a fully formed Lord Voldemort and possibly the most horrifying task of all for the 14 year old Harry, he must get himself a date for the Yule Ball!

The performance of the trio in the Goblet of Fire is amazing, every scene seemed to be executed perfectly and the on screen chemistry between the young stars is evident. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) reaches new heights in this movie perfectly portraying the uncomfortable adolescent Harry has become; he faces the new emotional roles in the movie with confidence and enthusiasm, like wise for Radcliffe's young co-stars Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger)

Once again we see terrific performances from the likes of Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), Alan Rickman (Professor Snape) and Robbie Coltraine (Hagrid) as well as meeting some new faces amongst the students, including students from two other magical academies who join the students at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry to participate in the Tri-Wizard Tournament! Another highlight of this marvelous movie is Ralph Fiennes' portrayal of Lord Voldemort which can be rather alarming even to an adult! Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire DVD Tapes is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

I believe this movie to be of an excellent standard not only due to the charismatic trio, but also thanks to the special effects of this movie. We see many fascinating creatures including a ferocious fire breathing dragon (which Harry must fight armed with nothing but his wand!) and while watching you can truly forget that these creatures were created using blue screen and you can honestly believe that you are in this world, that it truly exists just behind closed doors.

This is very true to the novels making this a movie every Potter fan can enjoy and indeed fans of spectacular plots and mind-blowing special effects alike can appreciate this, making the Goblet of Fire a movie for all the family!

Overall I would call this movie riveting and an absolute gem of the movie world. You do not want to miss this brilliant piece of film history, no DVD collection would be complete without it! Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is an amazing 5 stars!

harry potter prisoner azkaban widescreen dvd - top Harry Potter action figures, toys and booksHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2-Disc Widescreen Edition) (2004) $10  Edition:  DVD

Firstly the cast are, as always, perfect. Alan Rickman in particular. Could we really have asked for a better Snape? I think not! But, there is a disappointing lack of screen time for every character other than Harry. Fair enough, he is the lead, but the other characters are interesting and refreshing. more would have been appreciated.

I found Harry more likeable in this film. He seems more mischievous, as opposed to full of self importance and interfering like in film 1. There was not enough Sirius and Professor McGonnagal got a mere 2 lines at the most. Ron was a background character, as was Hermione. Malfoy is barely in the film. I was surprised.  Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Widescreen Edition DVD is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books where you can buy merchandise at this Harry Potter web site.

The change of director had had profound changes on the layout of Hogwarts. By film 2, viewers would have been familiar with the castle layout. The courtyard is familiar. Film 3 is very different. Hagrid's hut, for example, is now a long distance from the school gates (along a bridge, along a path, down a hill in a little valley). I'm concerned that with every different director, will Hogwarts change every time? I hope not.

Secondly, fans of the books will be disappointed about just how much is cut out. For those who haven't read the book, I suggest you do if you want the full story. The film does not tell the viewer who the authors of the marauders map are, something which I think is important to know. We don't find out who sent Harry the firebolt. There is no explanation from Dumbledore about Professor Trelawney's other prediction (that Neville could be Voldemort's nemesis, not Harry) The film was far too skimmed over. I think the director just presumed that viewers would know the books inside out and wouldn't have to put in the slightly important detail.

On a brighter note, it is by far funnier that the first two. There are more jokes and must be seen bits like Hermione punching Malfoy. It's quite a bit scarier that the first 2 as well. The Dementors are well done, as were the flying scenes with the firebolt at the end, and flying with Buckbeak. The success of Harry Potter, and the depth of its appeal can be seen when I went to see the film. There were more adult guys there than kids!

The story is better, the acting is generally better (Dan Radcliffe is a bit static, but Alan Rickman makes up for that) the jokes are better and the effects are seamless.

Overall I'd give it 9/10. Just too much scenery changed, and far too much cut from the book. I recommend this film to any fan of Harry Potter. But, I strongly recommend reading the book beforehand. That way you can fill in the gaps that the director leaves wide open.

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince (Book 6) (Paperback) $10

Opening just a few weeks after the previous book left off, the penultimate entry in the series is, as the author foretold, the darkest and most unsettling yet. The deeds of Voldemort's Death Eaters are spreading even to the Muggle world, which is enshrouded in a mist caused by Dementors draining hope and happiness.

Harry, turning 16, leaves for Hogwarts with the promise of private lessons with Dumbledore. No longer a fearful boy living under the stairs, he is clearly a leader and increasingly isolated as rumors spread that he is the Chosen One, the only individual capable of defeating Voldemort.

Two attempts on students' lives, Harry's conviction that Draco Malfoy has become a Death Eater, and Snape's usual slimy behavior add to the increasing tension. Yet through it all, Harry and his friends are typical teens, sharing homework and messy rooms, rushing to classes and sports practices, and flirting. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Paperback Book is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

Ron and Hermione realize their attraction, as do Harry and Ginny. Dozens of plot strands are pulled together as the author positions Harry for the final book. Much information is cleverly conveyed through Dumbledore's use of a Pensieve, a device that allows bottled memories to be shared by Harry and his beloved professor as they apparate to various locations that help explain Voldemort's past.

The ending is heart wrenching. Once again, Rowling capably blends literature, mythology, folklore, and religion into a delectable stew. This sixth book may be darker and more difficult, but Potter fans will devour it and begin the long and bittersweet wait for the final installment.

Harry Potter Years 1-4 (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone / Chamber of Secrets / Prisoner of Azkaban / Goblet of Fire) (Widescreen Edition)Harry Potter Years 1-4 (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone / Chamber of Secrets / Prisoner of Azkaban / Goblet of Fire) (Widescreen DVD Edition) $53

I checked out Beardsmen to buy the newest Harry Potter DVD (Movie 4) on it's release day, even though I don't already own the first two (I do own Movie 3, however). I knew I'd get the two I didn't own eventually, so why not get Movie 4 upon it's release?

I checked out the web site and noted the price for the 2-disc Widescreen Special Edition of Movie 4 was about $23 USD. I looked around a bit and found this box set with all four of the movies in it for $45 USD. That makes them about $12 USD each, and even though I'm buying one movie I own already, I'm getting three that I don't for less than I would pay buying them all separately (Movie 4 was half the price of the box set alone!). Harry Potter DVD Collection is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

The box set contains Movies 1-4 in the 2-disc Widescreen Special Edition format. That is 8 discs total. Each one is packaged the same as it's original release, though Movies 3 and 4 don't have the cardboard slip covers that came with them originally, but they still display just as nicely. The box that the movies come in is rather weak and poorly constructed and I doubt I'll be keeping it, however I bought the set to get the movies at a bargain price and not to get a nice box to put them in.

I strongly recommend this set for anyone who wants to get the whole set for one low price, it's a great way to catch your collection up for cheap!

Who Killed Albus Dumbledore?: What Really Happened in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? Six Expert Harry Potter Detectives Examine the Evidence. (Paperback) $15

In Hermione’s sixth year, Argus had many opportunities to feel the prickling of magic when he was near her. It seemed that she spent much of that year irate and frustrated. But when Severus Snape killed Albus Dumbledore, Argus discovered something: while Hermione’s anger and happiness each crackled with magical energy, her grief held no magical charge whatsoever.

To flesh out the boy who became the man who killed Albus Dumbledore.

I am the man who killed Albus Dumbledore,” a year and a half gone and he could almost say it now without wanting to vomit. His tone lowered to a whisper, “Best you remember that before I bother to learn your names so that I may drop them in His Lordship’s ear.

The fact that nothing shook Dumbledore's trust in Snape means there is something much deeper there that has not been stated. You would think Dumbledore would be more cautious after Quirrell, Crouch/Moody, and the knowledge of Draco trying to kill him, but he still trusts Snape.

"I'm not sure. I'm angry, that's for sure, I'm sad as well. But I'm also happy and I'm ready to start crying again, but I really don't feel the need to do that anymore. I'm going to miss Dumbledore, and the fact that muggles killed him makes me very angry, but I'm also glad that he's gone as well."

But…" Barflee Maldus, the reporter from Wizard's Weekly stuttered. "The Minister said it was Voldemort who killed Albus Dumbledore!"

"He lied." Harry said succinctly, throwing down the gauntlet at the absent Minister. "He probably said that so he wouldn't be blamed for the death of the only wizard feared by Voldemort. He wasn't on the platform. After showing the muggle soldiers how to pass the barrier, he cowered in safety of the muggle side until more Aurors showed up and the battle was all but over. Unlike him, I was there, looking right at Albus when the bullets destroyed his life. I saw him fall, struck down by the very people that he had sought to protect all of his life. I heard Voldemort's laughter."

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5) $20

In response to some mild criticisms of the Order of the Phoenix, I think that the reader should understand this: While Harry is growing, so is the story. The story has taken higher grounds than ever before. Before we saw Harry fighting basilisks, dragons, trolls, and all manner of monsters.

In the Order of the Phoenix, the battles have become personal. Harry is fighting his own anger, his inner emotional battle with others. Most of the conflict loops around the dreadful Professor Umbridge. Sometimes the reader cringes with Harry's pain. You end up feeling both sorry for and angry with Harry. The conflict intensifies as the plot thickens. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Hardcover Edition is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books where you can buy merchandise at this Harry Potter web site.

Another sign of the maturation of the story is the growing good vs. evil theme. We all know that Voldemort is evil and those on Dumbledore's side are good. But the book also reveals how even good people make serious mistakes and sometimes seemingly evil people have a soft side to them. We learn more about Sirius Black and James Potter and the conflict with Snape. The reader may be left crying in the end. It also becomes very exciting in the end with the Department of Mysteries, where the answer to many mysteries comes.

My overall point is that what makes the Order of the Phoenix so good is that the story has really grown. It's not a child's story. It's a new awakening of life. For that reason, I encourage people to read it.

Another thing that fascinates me with this book is how the characters shine. Hermione is so Hermione. The Slytherins are all brats again. Umbridge has no soft side to her. She rudely interrupts, she dresses and talks girlishly, she's racist, she loves seeing pain. Then again, it goes to show how even people who aren't Death Eaters can be just as evil. Harry has really grown in the end.

I am a college student and I've seen the problem where other girls my age say that they don't want to read the book because it's so long. Anyone in that age group should be aware that length doesn't matter; this is a very easy read. I read this book in only two weeks and if it weren't for my college classes I would have read it even faster.

The main reason why I got into my college budget to buy it is that I was jealous of those who had finished reading within two days. Besides, once you've read the first three shorter books, you'll be left in suspense for what comes next. You're missing out on a lot if you don't read these five wonderful books.

I look forward to what happens next in the battle against Voldemort.

top Harry Potter action figures, toys and booksHarry Potter Hardcover Boxed Set (Books 1-6) $100

Whether you are young or old and you haven't yet read any of J.K. Rowling's wonderful series of books about a young wizard named Harry Potter, then this set of the first six books would be a wonderful way to begin your own journey.

Harry Potter's story begins with the 1997 book "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". At age 11, he has been taken care of from the time that he was only one year old by his Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia, who have a child of their own named Dudley.

They have taken care of Harry because his own parents, James and Lily Potter (Lily was Petunia's sister) were killed by the evil wizard Lord Voldemort. The Dursleys want nothing to do with magic, and since Harry may be a wizard, they have not treated him very well. Harry Potter Hardcover Boxed Set is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

However, just before Harry's 11th birthday, he received a letter from the Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft; but the Dursleys won't let him read the letter. More & more letters from Hogwarts arrive until out of desperation, the Dursleys attempt to run away with Harry; but they are easily found and on Harry's birthday, a huge man by the name of Hagrid arrives to personally deliver Harry's invitation from Hogwarts to study magic.

It is only then that Harry finds out that he's a wizard and that the Dursleys had lied to him about how his parents died. Harry leaves with Hagrid and begins his first year at Hogwarts, where he makes his first true friends: Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

It's an exciting story as Harry learns to play quidditch, learns potions with the unpleasant Professor Snape and becomes entangled in some secret affairs at the school. He may even have an encounter with "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named".

In 1999, Harry's story continued with "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets". At age 12, Harry has been treated slightly better by the Dursleys over his summer holiday, but things begin to turn sour when an elf named Dobby suddenly appears in Harry's bedroom to give him a message: that he should not return to Hogwarts this year. Not accepting the warning, Dobby makes mischief while the Dursleys are entertaining. Uncle Vernon puts bars on Harry's bedroom window and refuses to let him return to Hogwarts, but a flying car carrying Ron Weasley and his brothers Fred and George arrive and rescue Harry.

Harry does finally get to Hogwarts, but students begin to be attacked by an unknown force and Harry starts to hear strange voices. That's when they learn about a legendary part of the castle known only as "the chamber of secrets", in which a horrible monster is said to dwell. Will Hogwarts get shut down, or can Harry and his friends figure out where the chamber is? Look out for Professor Gilderoy Lockhart and Moaning Myrtle.

Also in 1999, Harry's adventures continued with the release of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". At age 13, after Harry accidentally causes one of his other unpleasant muggle aunts to inflate like a balloon, he runs away from the Dursleys to wait out the end of his summer holidays elsewhere. Harry meets the Minister of Magic himself, Cornelius Fudge, but he doesn't' get in trouble for inflating his aunt. Instead, there is something far more ominous: Sirius Black, a very dangerous prisoner and convicted murderer, has escaped from Azkaban prison.

Everyone at Hogwarts must be on guard, especially with the dreaded dementors on the prowl looking for Sirius. While Ron & Harry can't understand how Hermione is getting to all of her classes (some classes at the same time), Sirius Black is looking for Harry. When Harry finds out who Sirius Black is, he goes ballistic; but things may not always be as they appear.

In 2000, at 14, Harry begins his fourth year at Hogwarts in the book "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire". This is an unusual year at Hogwarts: instead of the usual quidditch matches between the four houses, an international Tri-Wizarding Tournament is to be held. Limited to only upper-class students, everyone is shocked when Harry is named to be one of its contestants. The Tri-Wizarding Tournament is somewhat dangerous to its participants, but Hermione finds herself in an affair with a world-renowned quidditch player who is representing his school in the Tournament.

In the meantime, Harry starts to have his first teenaged romance with a girl named Cho Chang, but his life is complicated when he begins to experience strange visions of snakes and "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named". What is "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" doing? Harry will no doubt be caught in the thick of it and it may interfere with the Tournament!

In 2003, at 15, Harry's adventures continue in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix". After the events that conclude the previous book, Harry saves himself and his cousin Dudley from two dementors near the Dursleys home. In trouble for having used magic as an underage wizard, Harry is brought before a court at the Ministry of Magic. Thanks to Professor Dumbledore, Harry's attendance at Hogwarts is saved, but the Ministry of Magic thinks Harry is a liar.

To keep a lid on Harry & Dumbledore, the Ministry makes the lives of Hogwarts' staff and students (especially Harry) miserable with the arrival of Professor Dolores Umbridge direct from the Ministry. Not only does she personally make Harry's life miserable, Harry has to take extra lessons from Professor Snape!

However, something that Lord Voldemort desperately wants takes his band of Death Eaters and their battle with the Order to the secret halls of the Ministry itself resulting in a terrible price for Harry.

In 2005, at 16, Harry begins his sixth year at Hogwarts in the long-awaited book "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince". After surviving Professor Umbridge and the terrible events of the fifth book, the reputations of Professor Dumbledore and Harry have been restored as the Ministry of Magic has been forced to deal with the increasing number of attacks around England from the Death Eaters. In fact, Cornelius Fudge has been replaced by the more capable Rufus Scrimgeour as the new Minister of Magic.

Professor Dumbledore himself arrives at the Dursley's home to take Harry and has a very interesting discussion with them. He also tells Harry that he will be giving Harry private lessons during his sixth year. These lessons focus on teaching Harry about Voldemort's life story, as best as Professor Dumbledore can remember.

While Harry, Ron and Hermione have more homework than ever, Voldemort's war rages and a deadly plot is hatched that involves Draco Malfoy and Professor Snape resulting in Harry being faced with one of the most difficult experiences of his life. Decisions are then made that will have far reaching implications for J.K. Rowling's seventh and final (yet unnamed) book in the Harry Potter series.

Overall, I rate J.K. Rowling's first six Harry Potter books with a resounding 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend them. You too will then know what Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin are; as well as some of the secrets about Hogwarts and its magical world. You might even come across a Hippogryph named Buckbeak, a spider named Aragog, a werewolf and a broad range of engaging characters.

I very much look forward to reading the seventh and final book.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1)Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1) (Hardcover) $16

First off, I may not be exactly the demographic that you would think would read this book, or even give it a glance. After all, I am 20 years old, I listen to hip hop and alternative, and my favorite movie of all time happens to be none other than Scary Movie.

So why should I care about a book that features a little boy who runs around with his friends casting charms and flying around on his broomstick? Hardly seems worth wasting my precious time. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone hardcover book is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

I have heard the name Harry Potter for a couple of years now, watching the evening news and the top story focusing on the mobs of people in line to buy the new novels whenever they are released. I used to laugh at those stories, while feeling sorry for all the grown adults wasting their time reading children's fairy tales.

About one month ago, while I was sitting in a chair at my local movie house, I saw a movie trailer that featured the brought-to-life Harry Potter and his adventures. I thought to myself it looked interesting, and maybe I should give the book a try. Two weeks after that, my sister came to visit me and my parents on her way to Chicago.

She showed me her collection of all four Harry Potter novels, and told me that I should give them a try. I then proceeded to tell her about seeing the trailer, and my burgeoning interest in Harry Potter. She wasn't finished with the latest novel, but she left me the first three for me to read. It took me a couple of days to get around to start reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, but once I did I was hooked.

Raised for the first ten years of his life by ordinary people without any magical abilities, otherwise known as Muggles, Harry Potter lives in a world where technology and science rules. Everyone drives automobiles to get from one location to the next, use telephones to communicate to each other, and where everyone is unaware that living among them is a whole society of beings who use magic in place of technology to improve their quality of life.

Harry knows nothing of this hidden world, nor does he know anything about how his forgotten past links him to it. He lives a life of misery, mistreated by his aunt and uncle, and tormented by his sadistic cousin. They despise anything that has to do with magic, and do not want Harry corrupted like his wizard parents were. So when it is discovered that Harry has been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, his aunt and uncle are not pleased.

What follows for several more chapters is an interesting first look at the world Harry has been denied his whole life, full of wizards, witches and spells, dragons and gold fortunes. His first year at Hogwarts will be rewarding for him in so many ways, yet scary and full of mystery. He makes new friends, but develops enemies. Yet overcoming all that is the human spirit, good against evil, which is what really this book is about.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is so much more than a magical fantasy or children's fable, it contains within it's pages the very fabric of imagination and wonder that we adults thought we lost. This novel is a very easy read, yet complex enough to keep adults interested to the last page and beyond. J. K. Rowling does a fantastic job of bridging the gaps between childhood and adulthood, childlike imagination and grown up realities. One is never too keen when first reading this, for we are entering a fantastic new world, unexplored and unknown by us, the same as Harry Potter is.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Widescreen DVD Edition) $10

This is the film version of J. K. Rowling's novel by the same name, the second in the Harry Potter Series. If you liked the first movie and/or read the books, you won't be the least bit disappointed by this well-made adaptation. It's as imaginative, fascinating, fun-filled, and awe-inspiring as the first movie, but it's also darker, more serious and more complex than its predecessor.

You will love it as much as the first one but in a different way. The leading characters are more developed, friendships grow closer, feuds deepen, and the underlying evil that will challenge goodness time and again throughout the series is completely revealed.

Plots and sub-plots are explained as others are created. The visual effects, the scenery, and musical score excel their predecessors. The spellbinding magic comes back stronger, more entertaining and more serious than before.

In this movie as Harry arrives at Hogwarts for a new school year, strange things start to happen. He starts hearing voices and every time he does someone turns up petrified, from the caretaker's cat to a few classmates to a resident ghost. The school might close indefinitely as it becomes unsafe for all the students.

Harry discovers a few secrets of the school's past and himself, and is feared as many students believe him to be the cause of the petrifications. He receives the help of a giant (and not-so-friendly) spider, rides a flying car, encounters Tom Riddle, meets a mischievous but well-intended house elf and the most boastful schoolteacher yet and again has to put his integrity, moral strength and noble spirit to the test.

The wonderful world created by J. K Rowling is faithfully captured once more in this movie. The actors' performances are better than in the first film and grow concomitantly with their characters. The children are especially delightful to watch in their well-known roles. If you really want to enjoy this movie watch or read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone first.

Click the pic above and get this movie for your children and/or the kid inside you. You'll love it.

Fact, Fiction, and Folklore in Harry Potter's World: An Unofficial Guide (Paperback) $12

Author George Beahm has done a nice job with this book. Discussions of folklore and creatures are entertaining, although it must be noted that the book only covers the first 5 books in the series.

Author George Beahm presents the information in a well-organized and easy approach. As a big HP fan, I personally consider Beahm along with author Daniel Lawrence of the new HARRY POTTER BOOK 6 TRIVIA BOOK as the two best experts on HP insights. Fact, Fiction and Folklore in Harry Potter's World is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

I found it fun to read this book for an early Books 1-5 refresher and then read author Daniel Lawrence's ULTIMATE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE TRIVIA BOOK to fully see how much information I still didn't know about HP.

Great companion pieces to your HP collection. An avid adult HP fan, I recommend the above.

The World of Harry Potter top Harry Potter action figures, toys and booksThe World of Harry Potter $17

Platform:  PC

If you have never played the Harry Potter video games, then get this bundle for your PC.

This collection includes 4 games: Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, and Quidditch.

Overall: This is a must-have for Harry Potter fans! 5 out of 5 stars.  The World of Harry Potter PC Game is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

Enter the world of Harry Potter with this collection of action adventure games. The collection includes Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone:

It's not extremely difficult. Some of the challenges take a little more skill and wit than others. The saving graces of the game, and what makes it so cool, are the characters and the scenery. It's like you are actually at Hogwarts with Harry and his friends. The storyline skips around and if you are not familiar with what's going on, you might be confused from time to time. But for the Harry Potter reader and fan, this game is simply a must have. It is GREAT!!!!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets:

I am a grandfather, but still like Harry Potter and family friendly computer games. This game is great. I have played it for many happy hours and have "almost" won the game. I am still missing 3 bronze wizard cards in my best effort so far. I can "barely" win at quidditch, but have managed to win all my matches, so you probably can to. I am quite slow on the keyboard and mouse, but this game requires more mind speed than eye/hand co-ordination. I had a mental block the first time or two through the game and forgot to look up. Who would think that magical switches could be on the roof? Wizard dueling is the key to success for me. I can get lots of beans and then buy lots of Wizard cards, spell ingredients, and quidditch armor. All in all this is a very well done game.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban:

I thought this game had some very neat advancements on the 2nd in the series - I loved flying the dragon (though I can't seem to get the Hippogriff through the darned bat circles...), avoiding jumps with Ron's new skill, and going down the ice slides, for example. But the main challenges weren't very hard (as compared to the first two games, when I had to come back again and again against the final challenge), and the secrets seemed to unveil themselves much more readily. There were also a lot of locked doors that never became unlocked, which was curious. I liked how they streamlined the play - there wasn't nearly so much running around the school, as the school was both smaller and better organized with shortcuts between floors. I did miss the auto-jump feature from game 2 - I had to get used to actually telling the characters to jump up to a ledge. There weren't so many hard jumps to make as the first game had, so it wasn't so bad. The play was fun, the new spells were cool, but it wasn't as challenging or intense as Chamber of Secrets or the Sorcerer's Stone. Chamber of Secrets is the best so far, in my opinion.

Harry Potter Quidditch World Cup:

This is a really great game! It is way more exciting than the Chamber of Secrets and Sorcerer's Stone games. It's really fun and easy to control. The best part is that you can play on teams of different countries. Also you get to see characters from the fourth book like Ludo Bagman and Viktor Krumm. It's also fun that you can play all the positions and can use different broomsticks mentioned in the books. You can explore the sport better through tricks and special moves. Also it's fun to collect the Quidditch cards! This game is really good and I would recommend buying it definitely!

Henry Potty and the Pet Rock: An Unauthorized Harry Potter Parody (Paperback) $10

Unless you just crawled out from a cave after hibernating for 20 years you have to have heard about Harry Potter and all his glory. Now pretend that Weird Al Yankovich and J.K. Rowling hooked up to create a book. What would you have? You'd have "Henry Potty and the Pet Rock."

An absolutely hilarious take on the Harry Potter stories, Frankel takes a stab at re-creating a similar story line but with a few wackier characters and events. A parody like no other I've ever seen in literature, you will chuckle and laugh until your belly hurts!

Characters that are just plain silly and fun create a story line that makes one take a second look at the Potter series and say "Hmmm, I wonder if J.K. Rowling ever thought of it that way". As the main character, Henry Potty takes on a series of strange events to create a silly story told much to the likes of anyone that's a kid at heart.

Not limited to just a youngster's read, adults will enjoy this take on the magical world our own kids seem obsessed with as Henry joins the ranks of fellow pranksters and goofballs at Chickenfeet Academy.

An absolutely witty satire, Frankel somehow brings the characters above and beyond what you would expect as you laugh your way through the book. Silly, senseless, and totally nuts, you cannot help but enjoy the ride as you sit back and read "Henry Potty and the Pet Rock."

If you have a Harry Potter fan at home, they'll be amused at the parodies. If you have a Harry Potter naysayer at home, they'll love the comical jabs. And if you simply want a good laugh, you'll enjoy every page! Truly for kids of all ages, 2 to 222!

Harry Potter - The Weasley's Grandfather Clock Watch $25

This watch has no depiction of the Harry Potter characters on its face, but I just take one look at it and the watch brings to mind the second Harry Potter movie and his first visit to The Burrow. And that's exactly why I like this wristwatch. Unlike some other models where you may have to explain why it is a Harry Potter watch, the Weasley's Grandfather Clock Special Edition Watch by SII Marketing International evokes an instant association with the Harry Potter films and the books (provided that the person is familiar with both in the first place).

This watch is a large one. The 1.5" by 1.5" gold tone and brushed finish case has a sturdy feel and a vintage look. The warm, rich brown color of the leather band complements the watch very well. Besides, the makers provided enough holes in the band to make it possible for people with small wrists like mine to wear it comfortably. The HP logo is embossed on the long end of the band.
Now that everybody carries an iPod or a cell phone, wristwatches have become more of an optional fashion accessory and less of the practical instrument meant to get us to our appointments on time, and so it's no longer that important to have a watch you can read at a glance.

There are HP watches with hands so thin that they blend with the background. That way they won't detract from or obstruct the design on the face. However, you have to look really hard if you want to tell the time when you wear one of those watches. Harry Potter the Weasley's Grandfather Clock Watch is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

The Weasley's Grandfather Clock Watch, however, doesn't have that problem and that's another reason I like this timepiece. The soft orange outer dial and contrasting dark blue inner dial with its gold tone dots and hands make for a watch that's very easy to read. I also like the fact that when seen from afar, the inner blue dial loosely resembles an 8-point star.

This watch is great for casual occasions. I wear it on the weekends and I recommend it because it's both a practical watch and a fun accessory--and, of course, it's a good addition to any Harry Potter watch collection too.

Scene It? The DVD Game - Harry Potter Edition $35

I love this game. my mom and i play it almost every day. there r so many things to see, and do. each time we play we find something new to see, and we learn trivia that we never knew before. u can play it with or with out the game board, depending on how long u want to play.

u don't even need to use all the stuff for every game. mix it up. one day use only the trivia cards. another day, just use the dvd trivia disc. there r so many options that it's never the same game twice. if u really love Harry Potter, than don't miss out on this game. it is a lot of fun for parties, or even by yourself. give it a try u wont regret it...i know i didn't. have fun!!!

Scene It Harry Potter is my favorite game in the whole world! Even if you're not that interested in Harry Potter you'll still love it! I would recommend this to all ages that could understand it, like from 5-adult. Thank you so much for making this because now if I'm bored I'll just take this out and play with it.

Harry Potter should play this game. He would have a lot of fun! Scene It? the DVD Game Harry Potter Edition is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books

I got the Harry Potter Edition of Scene It? for a gift and it was totally awesome! The DVD part was fun and I like the way it has a lot of clips. My brothers and sisters have already played with me and we think it is loads of fun.

The reason I only gave it four stars is that some of the trivia is complicated and the other point is, is that you have to have seen the movies to know the correct answers (you also could have read the book, but I'd have to say that you would need to have seen all four movies).

Harry Potter and International Relations (Paperback) $25

Why not take the claim that Harry Potter's world intertwines with our own seriously? In this timely yet otherworldly volume, over a dozen scholars of international relations join hands to demonstrate how this vastly popular artifact of popular culture reflects and shapes our own life world.

Drawing on a wide range of historical and sociological sources, each shows how aspects of Harry's world contain aspects of our own. Practices such as Quidditch dovetail quite clearly with muggle sports, and the very British-ness of the books has, in translation into languages such as Turkish and Arabic, been transformed to reflect these unique cultures.

Chapters on the political economy of the franchise as well as on the scholarly problems of studying popular culture, frame what is essentially a highly info-taining read. A landmark in muggle studies. Harry Potter and International Relations Paperback Book is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

Nexon and Neumann explore an underdeveloped area of Harry Potter scholarship in a collection of essays covering a wide range of political and cultural topics. In a post-9/11world, international relations is a critical area of inquiry. Their book is a valuable contribution to the growing body of scholarly attention to the boy wizard and the magician who created him.

This accessible and original volume will challenge both Harry Potter fans and students of world politics to think more deeply and critically about different forms of engagement between popular culture and world politics. Drawing on "enjoyable evidence" from the Harry Potter universe, this diverse yet coherent collection of essays draws on one of western culture's quintessential commercial mega-texts to demonstrate that our understanding of world politics can be significantly and agreeably expanded by delving into the riches of popular culture.

An important contribution to the literature on popular culture and international relations that invites us to re-imagine the real world of international relations through the imagined world of Harry Potter.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Widescreen Edition) (Harry Potter 4)Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Widescreen DVD Edition) $20

In this fourth installment in the ever popular Harry Potter series based on the novel by JK Rowling we see Harry mature in many ways. He must overcome three deadly tasks, face a fully formed Lord Voldemort and possibly the most horrifying task of all for the 14 year old Harry, he must get himself a date for the Yule Ball!

The performance of the trio in the Goblet of Fire is amazing, every scene seemed to be executed perfectly and the on screen chemistry between the young stars is evident. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) reaches new heights in this movie perfectly portraying the uncomfortable adolescent Harry has become; he faces the new emotional roles in the movie with confidence and enthusiasm, likewise for Radcliffe's young co-stars Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger)

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Widescreen DVD Edition is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

If Harry Potter Ran General Electric : Leadership Wisdom from the World of the Wizards (Hardcover) $17

However important the magic of wands, brooms, cauldrons, potions, and spells might be to the vivid story telling of the Harry Potter books, it is merely incidental to their philosophy of life…. I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard someone in a business context say something like “I wish I could just magically solve all these problems” or “I’ll try my best to deal with this, but remember, I’m no magician.”

What is particularly interesting is that the most difficult problems that the people in Harry’s world face are rarely solved with just magic, but rather by the use of intelligence, reasoning, planning, courage, determination, persistence, resourcefulness, creativity, fidelity, friendship, and many other qualities traditionally known by the philosophers in our world as virtues…. The meaning of life is not to be found in elixirs or incantations, secret words or exotic objects with esoteric powers, but in real moral virtue and the magic of what it can help us do….”

J. K. Rowling’s novels about Harry Potter and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry have captured the imaginations of people everywhere. In IF HARRY POTTER RAN GENERAL ELECTRIC, bestselling business author Tom Morris (IF ARISTOTLE RAN GENERAL MOTORS) uncovers the values and timeless truths that underlie Rowling's hugely popular books and illuminate the lessons they offer to all of us in our careers and daily lives. If Harry Potter Ran General Electric is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

But, you say, Harry Potter lives in a world of magic? What can we possibly learn to apply to our own careers and everyday lives? Morris shows that the most difficult problems Harry and his friends face are rarely solved by the use of magic alone. Rather, they are conquered by intelligence, reasoning, determination, creativity, friendship, and a host of other classic virtues–the very qualities, in fact, that make for success in every aspect of our lives.

Blending an array of provocative examples from the novels with thought-provoking commentary on contemporary management practices, IF HARRY POTTER RAN GENERAL ELECTRIC offers readers a master’s course on leadership and ethics, told in an engaging and insightful way.

top Harry Potter action figures, toys and booksHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Movie Poster Book (Paperback) $6

If you enjoyed seeing "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" in the theater, you'll probably like this movie poster book, featuring posters and information about the actors and actresses who played all the major characters.

There's Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), of course, Emma Watson (Hermione), Rupert Grint (Ron), Tom Felton (Malfoy), Joshua Herman (Goyle), Jamie Waylett (Crabbe), Katie Leung (Chang), Stanislav Lanevski (Krum), James Phelps (Fred Weasley), Oliver Phelps (George Weasley), Clémence Poésy (Fleur), Robert Pattinson (Diggory) and finally Matthew Lewis (Neville). Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Poster Book is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

Each character gets at least one full page poster which you can fold along the serrated edge and tear out to post on your wall, or wherever else you like. There are statistics and questions and answers for many of the actors and actresses.

Some of this is stuff you'll have read before, but some of it is bound to be new.

Mapping the World of Harry Potter (Smart Pop Series) (Paperback) $11

"Mapping the World of Harry Potter" is a great addition to any Harry Potter collection. The essays are diverse and hit many subjects, some obvious, like the problems of religion (or lack of) in the series. For instance, "Harry Potter and the End of Religion" targets what the author sees as a complete lack or need for religion in the books, while "It's All About God" defends the religion within, saying that the series is, indeed, spiritual in a natural sense.

Another essay, "Hermione Granger and the Charge of Sexism," addresses the charges of sexism that have been leveled at the book and responds with how many of the female characters are actually strong in their own right, not dependent on men to make their decisions or succeed at their goals. In addition, "From Azkaban to Abu Ghraib" looks at the increasing amount of politics in the books, drawing parallels within Hogwarts and the wizarding world to fascism, the Third Reich and other oppressive political movements. Mapping the World of Harry Potter is included in the top Harry Potter action figures, toys and books.

Of course, not all the essays have such serious subject matter. The most enjoyable essay is one that is certainly not intended for children: Joyce Millman's "To Sir, With Love." It's a hilarious and slightly disturbing essay about the proliferation of Snape fan-fiction on the Internet, in which Snape gets up to various S&M activities with several other Harry Potter regulars. The other humorous essays are more innocent, including Mercedes Lackey's description of her own "Harry Potter" drinking game and why Harry is going to need some serious therapy if he survives.

There are fourteen essays in all, touching on many characters and aspects of the wizarding world, and an introduction by Mercedes Lackey. There's something for all kinds of Harry Potter fans in this diverse compilation, and it definitely gives you more to think about when re-reading the series.
