Red Steel Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

I really wanted to love this game. I had read some reviews on a respected gaming site about a week before Nintendo Wii was released and some of the editors mentioned that they were weary of this game and the hype that Ubisoft had created. At this point, I was skeptical. But I mushed on... hopeful.

About half way through the game, with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck swinging in my hands, I can say that I'm disappointed.

Controlling the aiming and movement pretty much at the same time with the Wii Remote was a challenge. It seemed that the developers had spent some time trying to get this right, but it just didn't' work. I was constantly analyzing the control to that of a PC or traditional control set-ups. With the Wii Remote, for this particular game, it didn't work.

As for the "sword-play" -- it was pure s**t. When I swang the sword with the Wii Remote, it took about a half-second to register on screen. It may sound small, but in a high action game, this is significant. Red Steel is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

The story is over-rated. It's just plain boring.

I really wanted to like this game.

Bottom line: buy another game.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

I clicked the pic above and bought this because it got such great reviews.. I really liked the one for the Gamecube.

Man, this one is frustrating though. I like the single player campaign, but the minigames aren't very much fun, and that's the real reason I bought the game. I had a friend over to play it with me, since we both thought it would be as good as the GameCube version.. we started out with minigames and just got frustrated because they are so hard to control.. half the time the controllers just bug out.

I haven't had problems with controls in Wii sports or Zelda, but SMB:BB is pretty rough... I wish I send it back. Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

Also, what gives with the bogus reviews on this game? I don't know how anyone could go through those minigames and think that this game deserves the best rating.

I really am not trying to be harsh, but I felt like this game should be pretty simple and a lot of fun for a party, just like its predecessor, but I wouldn't want to get this game out for a group... everyone would want to leave. I'll stick with Zelda and Wii sports for now.

Rayman Raving Rabbids Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

I am not much of a gamer. The Wii has been my first game console since the Playstation a LOOOONG time ago. In fact, games usually bore me. Not this one.

The experience with the wii-mote is awesome. This game should come packaged with the Wii because it shows off just how well the wii-mote can immerse the player into the game! Something like this would be utterly boring with a regular controller. But when you're swinging the remote over your head like a lasso, or holding a hose in your right hand and pumping with your left... or tippy toeing with your arms close to your body... or jumping rope or slapping bunnies with your backhand... YOU GET THE PICTURE. They really did this game well. It's so much fun. Tons of laughs.

We played the game ALL DAY yesterday and all night today and finally passed the 1-player story-mode game (unlocking all the multiplayer games). It was fun. We were very loud. Certain levels were very challenging and required many rounds with the controller being passed from hand to hand between the 5 of us. Rayman Raving Rabbids is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

The game has an excellent soundtrack. Graphics, I don't know, they looked pretty good. The bunnies were cute! The game is great for kids of all ages because there is no killing. You just shoot bunnies with plungers and they cry and go away! Hilarious. That's one thing about this game that will catch you off guard.. It's FUNNY. You will find certain stages, animations, games instantly hilarious. Fat bunnies running all over your screen, what more can you ask for?

I would like to highly recommend this game to anyone who wants to play Wii games with a party-type atmosphere. In all honesty, playing this game alone will be fun but might get old after a while. That's why single player games (like Zelda) have things like puzzles and mysteries to keep you occupied. This game is just pure fun with the controllers and reflexes and skills. I have a hard time paying attention to any game that takes more than 5-10 minutes per level. I don't feel like my games should stress me out like my job.

This game is mindless fun. We all loved it. Click the pic above and get it. Here is a breakdown of our diverse little party group over the past 2 days:

Aged 17M, 19F, 19M, 23M-s/w consultant, 23F-banking, 27M-engineer, 28F-project mgr, 34M-educator). This game really is for everybody. I think kids (<13) would get a freaking kick out of it.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

Remember the Operation game of your youth? Trauma Center is like an online, graphic version of that - with puzzles, too. You need fast fingers and a sharp mind to save your patients.

You're in the future, and you begin with simple operations. Repairing broken bones, stitching up cuts. You use your Wii controller in the right hand to point at the various items, and the nunchuck in your left to select the tools. It's really quite intuitive, although it requires you to hold the controller like a pencil for pinpoint accuracy, and this can get really tough on your hand, really quickly. You need a super steady hand to pull off some of the moves.

Then the game goes into futuristic mode and now you are trying to zap moving creatures that are crawling around inside people. There isn't any blood or gore - even "drain the blood" only has fuzzy red areas. Parents don't have to worry at all about upsetting young tykes from this point of view. Even I, who am normally squeamish about blood, didn't have any issues here. The worst was perhaps using the scalpel to slice open the flesh and see it open up into a red wound. But again, it was very tame, just a red inside on a tan body.

The issue for me is that I would have loved for the game to be more realistic from a medical point of view. They love throwing around complex words in this game, to give it a hospital feel, but then they get some basic anatomy wrong that even I realize! Part of the fun of watching shows like CSI is that you are learning something as you go. Here, you are getting inaccurate information, which is a real shame. Trauma Center Second Opinion is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

Also, while the realistic episodes such as "get the arm bones back together" are very satisfying, it's much more odd when you're tracking down moving "enemy objects" inside a person. I would really have loved many more complex, real life situations. Medical operations are tense and complex enough on their own without having to throw in unnecessarily silly items to jazz it up.

Speaking of tense and silly, the game intersperses your doctoral duties with a soap opera of cut scenes. These involve stationary images of people shown on the screen, while a hyper voice babbles in the background. It's bad enough when these happen before a mission, getting you riled up and worried about your patient. It's far worse when you are IN an open chest wound, trying frantically to pull out the shards of glass or whatever, and your nurse barges in with inane babble, that you have to deliberately click to "hear" and continue with!

Also, I think they could have done a better job of laying out the HUD. Part of your screen is taken up with an image of your nurse or other person, which is of course completely unnecessary. The pulse line, showing the health of your patient, is of course critical to the operation but is very hard to keep a handle on when you're in the thick of things. Half the time your nurse only warns you about a danger when it is too late to do anything about it. So you have to either keep looking up there yourself or have a friend watch it for you, calling out when it begins to drops. Just about every other game out there has some sort of a health line / bar and handles it better.

Finally, especially for a kid's game, they are a little harsh on the consequences. If you do something wrong, the game could say "Another doctor stepped in to save the patient, and you decided to be a nurse instead". Something that indicated failure but not catastrophic emotional trauma. Instead, they talk about the patient dying, you quitting your job in despair, your life being ruined because of this one mistake. Most people play these games to release stress, not to feel like they have destroyed a person's life because they didn't zigzag their sutures quite right.

My boyfriend got hooked on this and played it straight through in about 3 days, playing maybe 5 hours a day. So in that sense it's relatively short, although of course you can go back and re-play it to get the highest score on each of the levels. I do want to comment here that the soundtrack got MADDENINGLY annoying after a while. It's pretty much the same. DUM DUM DUM DUMMMMM!

The music is like watching a soap opera hospital scene, where you sense impending doom every ... second ... of ... the ... time ... The nurse is screaming out "Doctor! What is that?!?!?" I realize they want to get your adrenaline going, but there's such a thing as overkill. If you turn off the music, though, you lose the few indicators you do get about the patient's health. I really would have liked an option to have just "medical sounds" playing - alerts for the health, that sort of thing - and be able to have silence otherwise.

Still, the game is fun to play and very intriguing in concept. I would *love* to play a sequel to this. Again, my suggestions would be to remove the annoying cut-scenes (at least mid-operation!), give options to remove the music and super-hyper-unprofessional sidekicks, and to have more realistic scenarios. I think this could become a must-have title if they headed that way.

Call of Duty 3 Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

This (the Wii) is the first console since the original Nintendo that I was ever excited about. I generally avoided the consoles, especially FPS games for them, due to my reliance on Keyboard+Mouse control.

Gameplay: I'm very pleased with the aiming and control you have with the guns. While I seem to have a 50/50 chance of losing a fight over a gun struggle, it's still a very exciting event. Early on, it was a little dizzying due to my lack of control, and that relaxed state of my arms seemed to point the wii-remote downward, which resulted in me looking at the ground.

After about 20-30 minutes of gameplay, (probably quicker for some others not so reliant on the Keyboard+Mouse combo), the aiming controls felt quite natural, and my focus during play was strictly on the game itself and not the controls. Call of Duty 3 is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

Like some other games, (Halo if I remember correctly) you (your character) doesn't have hit points so to speak, but works off of a sustained damage idea. You won't die unless you take a lot of damage very quickly. This is enjoyable during the game because it keeps the action going, and has less of a "Rainbow Six" feel where all the Terrorists were headhunters and 1-shot killed you.

Display: First off, I don't own a HDTV. It's an old 1993 25" tube TV. The graphics for this game look excellent on this TV. I've been very impressed with overall look and feel. There have been several times, when looking through my weapon's sights that I felt like I was watching scenes out of "Saving Private Ryan". The movement and body motions of humanoids look very natural and don't draw your attention for un-natural deformations or robotic movements.

Pros: I love the wii-remote aiming. Driving is a lot of FUN!!!

Cons: Some of the gestures with the remote, at least in the beginning for me, felt awkward or left me looking around wildly with the remote. This will probably get better as I get better with the controls, but I thought I'd mention it.

AI: The AI of the enemy is ok. It suffers from the usual AI problems such as: You've mowed down 6 Nazis running through a doorway, and they just keep coming. Because they are not affected by the loss of their comrades, they'll keep strolling through the door instead of tossing a grenade in first. As said, this is a standard problem with most FPS games.

Overall: I'm very pleased with this game and would highly recommend it to FPS lovers. Especially PC gamers looking to take the plunge with a console. (Wii specific)

Excite Truck Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

Excite Truck, in adding a vertical component to a standard racing game, has created one of the more enjoyable games that I've played in recent memory.

Controlling the trucks in Excite Truck is both unique and simple. Holding the standard Wii remote sideways (keep the d-pad under your left thumb and the 1 and 2 buttons under your right), you steer the truck by turning the controller.

The courses feature many ramps from which you can launch your truck into the air and control how long it stays aloft by rotating the controller back toward you. And if you stick the landing, so to speak, by aligning all four of the truck's tires with the ground (again, by rotating the controller), you can get a speed boost. Excite Truck is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

The game play in Excite Truck is very compelling. The game offers a head-to-head mode that pits two racers against each other, but my friends and I preferred collaborating on clearing the levels. In a twist that is, in my experience, unique to Excite Truck, you do not clear a track based just on score. Instead, you must collect stars as you run through the course. Stars are granted for, among other things, jumps with long hang-times, daring runs through trees, hard slides through curves, and smashing other trucks.

You can also get points for how you place in the race, but it is much more important to collect stars during the race as you cannot get an 'A' or 'B' for a course simply by coming in first. In fact, no matter how fast you race, your competitors will likely be able to match your pace, especially in the 'Gold' and 'Platinum' level tracks. It takes deft maneuvering at the end of the race to secure a first place finish in some of these later levels. All things considered, the focus on tricks and jumps makes for a very enjoyable game, especially for a group of players.

Quibbles:

The initial setup of the game -- all of the game actually -- requires that you hold the remote sideways. However, no indication of this is given when you are asked to create save data at the beginning of the game, so you have to figure out on your own why pressing the up arrow moves the cursor to the left. Driving the menus with the standard Wii point-and-click interface would have been a useful improvement.

The controls take some getting used to. Some of my friends had a tendency to try to steer with the directional pad. Others would over steer by turning the remote all the way past vertical when steering, which had unpredictable results. But a little more time with the game will probably get people used to the controls. (And, as a full disclaimer, none of the ones who had difficulty steering had completed the tutorials.)

All that aside, Excite Truck is a must-have game for the Nintendo Wii.

Cars Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

Based on the PIXAR film of the same name, Cars has you playing as characters from the movie as you help Lightning McQueen capture the coveted Piston Cup Championship

This original game picks up after the film's conclusion and finds poster boy Lightning McQueen returning to Radiator Springs. However, the magic of flashbacks ensures that you'll be able to relive key moments from the film.

If you played the current-gen version of Cars, you should be familiar with what to expect from the Wii game. The game lets you roam the town of Radiator Springs and its surrounding areas, engaging in a variety of different race types. You are able to play as Lightning McQueen and unlock several familiar faces from the films, all of which have their own unique handling.

The game makes sole use of the Wii remote, requiring you to hold it sideways, with the D pad resting under your left thumb and the numbered buttons under your right thumb. As with Excite Truck, you'll use the controller to steer your vehicle during the races, while the 2 button will accelerate and the 1 button will boost. Holding left on the D pad will let you power slide and holding right will let you get your car up on two tires.

Quickly moving the controller up and down will let you jump; if you time the move correctly, you are able to catch an impressive amount of air while doing so. Cars is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

The visuals in the game don't differ radically from the current-gen game, although it looks more in line with the Xbox game than the GameCube game, albeit with a touch more aliasing. The environments are drawn from the film locales, and the cars sport a detailed appearance in line with their movie counterparts. The audio stays true to the standard established in the console game and features an authentic collection of voices from the film's cast.

Happy Feet Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

This game is actually kind of fun and it DOES use the remote. The only set back to this game is the types of games that you must do each level.

Most of them consist either of dancing (which is like a Dance Dance Revolution- hit the button when the arrow is in the correct spot), swimming (which involves moving the remote in the direction that you want to swim and try to go through bubbles and rings), or sledding down hills (which is similar to the swimming challenges but you try to collect different objects).

Overall this game was pretty fun but you would not want it to be your only Wii game. Happy Feet is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

It can get pretty boring after a while.

SpongeBob SquarePants Creature from the Krusty Krab Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

Out of the five games that I own (Monkey ball, Zelda, Rayman, Call of Duty, and this), CFTKK is the game that I find myself wanting to play most. It makes the best use of the different capabilities of the Wii remote, and the gameplay is constantly changing and never boring or repetitive.

You do not have to like SpongeBob to like this game. SpongeBob SquarePants Creature from the Krusty Krab is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

When I clicked the pic above and picked this game up, I expected little value. But as the time went by I began to like it. Eventually, I gave this game a 5 star rating.

So anyone who sees this game, PICK IT UP. I cannot recommend this game enough.

GT Pro Series (Wheel Included) Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

reading alot of reviews for this game before i clicked the pic above and bought it, there was a mix of people saying, the graphics are horrible, and then people defending the wii by saying that the wii isn't supposed to have good graphics. maybe not, but it is supposed to have better graphics than this game.

the graphics in this game are on par with racing games from nintendo64. that has nothing to do with the wii. to do with gameplay, the game seems like it has a lot of potential, because you can customize your car, and alot of cars are there.

i can even race the car that i own (a subaru impreza). however unlike the other games i have played on wii, i find the controls in this one almost impossible, and am tempted to turn off the motion controls altogether and use the D-pad instead. they do have options though for the sensitivity of the motion control, but i have tried almost every different sensitivity and can't seem to get it right.

the best part about the game however is the steering wheel attachment for the Wiimote. it does make the controls significantly easier, even though it's still near impossible. i am hoping that this will be useful for other driving games when they come out, if they are any better than this.

all in all i am disappointed in the game, even though i wasn't expecting much graphic wise, i was expecting it at least to be fun to play. gt pro series is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

i'll have to hold out until i get another racing game to figure if this was a complete waste of money, because if all racing games on the wii suck, then the steering wheel will be useless as well, making everything about this purchase useless.

Disney's Chicken Little: Ace in Action Nintendo Wii Video Game $40

Disney's Chicken Little: Ace in Action is based on the finale of Walt Disney Pictures' animated film Chicken Little. Now you can play as Chicken Little's alter-ego Ace as he battles evil alien robots in a variety of gameplay modes.

Inspired by the "movie within the movie" finale of Walt Disney Pictures' box office hit film "Chicken Little," Disney's Chicken Little: Ace in Action features Ace, the superhero alter ego of Chicken Little, and the Hollywood versions of his misfit band of friends: Runt, Abby and Fish-Out-of-Water.

The crew faces off against Foxy Loxy and her evil Amazonian sidekick, Goosey Loosey, who have an evil plan to take over Earth. Battle evil alien robots through multiple levels across the solar system and combat your foes in one of three distinct gameplay modes: Ace on foot as a soldier, Runt as the driver of an armored tank and Abby as the pilot of a spaceship.

The original Chicken Little and his friends Abby, Runt and Fish we know from the original film are featured in cut scenes throughout the game. Chicken Little receives a copy of the latest video game starring his superhero alter ego and invites his friends to come over and play the game with him, in effect creating a "video game within a video game."

The look and feel of Disney's Chicken Little: Ace in Action is an over-the-top parody of 1950s sci-fi films inspired by the glimpse into Ace's world from the film.

bulletGame control will utilize the innovative Nintendo Revolution controller to manage inventory and manipulate the in-game camera perspective simply by pointing at objectives.
bulletDisney's Chicken Little Ace in Action is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.
bulletFour new dynamic worlds to explore: Pluto, Saturn, Mars and the Moon

Monster 4x4: World Circuit Nintendo Wii Video Game $50

Monster 4x4 World Circuit lets players control powerful trucks and go head-to-head in off-road competitions all over the world.

While the game features much the same content as the Xbox version, as a Wii title, it plays significantly different.

Like other Wii racing games Monster 4X4 has you controlling your vehicle by holding the rectangular Wii controller sideways and turning it like you would a steering wheel. The difference here is the wheel accessory, which will be packed in with both Monster 4X4 and GT Pro Series. After assembling the wheel, you snap the Wii controller into a slot found in the center of the wheel. The motions of controlling the game are still exactly the same, but instead of grasping onto the edge of a thin rectangular controller, you're latched onto the smooth contours of the Ubisoft wheel.

Though Monster 4X4 features monster trucks exclusively, there's more to the game than simply leaping crushed junkyard cars. The game is pure arcade circuit racing, full of power-ups and on-track weapons in the form of barrels that, once you run them over, shoot forward and knock out the next car ahead of you. Monster 4X4 World Circuit is included in the top 40 Nintendo Wii video games and console system with release dates and price for preorder and order.

Far from being heavy and sluggish, these monster trucks aren't just quick, they're agile and capable of pulling off a variety of midair tricks. It's during these tricks that you take the most advantage of the Wii controller's motion-sensing capabilities. Hit the air off the lip of a jump, and you can move your arms forward in a circle to pull off a somersault, or you can move them laterally to flip your car from left to right (or vice verse).

As long as you have enough speed at the jump, you can execute these moves with ease. Performing these tricks will earn you turbo boost, which you can activate on the track at any time by pushing forward with both hands.

In addition to racing on multiple tracks, we got minigames, including my personal favorite, soccer. Up to four people can take part pushing a gigantic soccer ball around a field and trying to score goals in equally huge nets. The one-on-one matches are fast and fun, as we maneuvers our trucks around the pitch trying to nudge the ball in the goal.

We did notice that the kind of truck you choose can have an effect on your performance, as some of the bigger trucks aren't able to keep up with the smaller, quicker models. Nonetheless, like any good minigame, monster truck soccer elicits a number of tense moments and good laughs and you can't ask for much more than that.

Monster 4X4 seems to make smart use of the Wii controller--it's got a bright, cartoonish vibe, and the packed-in wheel accessory is helpful for not only Ubisoft games but also any other Wii racing games that come down the line.
